Want to reduce the possibility of your website been hacked or hijacked?

With this plugin you can change wp-admin and wp-login.php to any of your choice, making it impossible for the hackers to access your administration login page.
Instead of http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/ and http://yourdomain.com/wp-login.php you can have http://yourdomain.com/banana

It’s simple to use.
New field will be added to Settings -> Permalinks section called WP-Admin slug. All you have to do is to write your desired WP Admin slug and save the settings.

Installation

Upload hc-custom-wp-admin-url.php to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
Go to Permalink Options page inside the administration area
Set the field WP-Admin slug to the desired one and save changes

Does this work with Multisite

We don’t know yet.

What about the default Admin URLs?

Old WP Admin urls http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/ and http://yourdomain.com/wp-login.php will not be usable until you clear the WP-Admin slug field from Permalink Options page or uninstal the plugin.

The new url is not working, and I can still access the default url

Try re-saving the settings.

This plugin needs to be removed from wordpress! Besides the fact the developer doesn't update it, it's completely pointless to use because the permalink you set does not even override wp-admin. It just adds another url for your site to get hacked...smgdh.

You can easily bypass this plugin and get to the login page by sending the cookie valid_login_slug=1 along with your requests.

I love this plugin as it creates a clean look when someone tries to use /wp-admin or /wp-login.php in the address bar. It just sort of fades out then fades in the screen leaving the user on the homepage. As WordPress has become more popular and everyone knows the admin login is /wp-admin it's a small security thing to be able to have a different login address. I have used this on many websites and have had a couple that there were conflicts, so maybe the new updates will help with that? If not, just knowing that it is no longer abandoned is a good thing.

Worked for a while but just took down my site. Had to deactivate through cpanel. Then had to reset permalinks.

I'd been using the plugin successfully for quite a while. But somewhere along the line the password reset link stopped working. The link emailed out after using the "Lost password" form does not include the hidden word required to get to the login page when the plugin is active.
