FAQ

Does this replace the WooCommerce checkout page?

No. WooCommerce still runs the checkout. This plugin changes the fields on that checkout: their order, labels, placeholders, required state, and whether they are shown. Open Lumo WP > Checkout Form Builder Lite, edit Billing Fields, Shipping Fields, or Additional Fields, then press Save Changes.

What can the free checkout field editor change?

The free edition edits billing, shipping, and additional checkout fields. You can drag fields into a new order, place a field on half a row or the full row, add a field, copy it, rename it, or delete it. You can also turn a field off so shoppers do not see it. Field types in this edition are text, email, phone, textarea, select, a single checkbox, and radio buttons.

Which field types are included for free, and which need the full edition?

Free field types are text, email, phone, textarea, select, checkbox, and radio. Select and radio fields include an options list. The full edition adds file upload, date, time, number, password, hidden fields, multi-select, and a group of checkboxes. Those extra types are not in this free plugin.

Can I hide Company, the second address line, or order notes?

Yes. Each field has a show/hide control. Turning it off removes that field from classic checkout and from the WooCommerce Checkout block. Country stays on the block, because WooCommerce uses it to load the rest of the address form. For the most complete control over every field, use the Create Classic Checkout Page button under General Settings.

Does this work with the Checkout block and High-Performance Order Storage?

Yes. It works with classic checkout, created with the [woocommerce_checkout] shortcode, and with the WooCommerce Checkout block. Custom field values are stored as order meta, so they also work when High-Performance Order Storage (HPOS) is enabled. WooCommerce 8.0 or newer is required.

Where do the customer’s extra answers appear?

Custom answers are saved on the WooCommerce order. On the order screen they appear in the Custom Checkout Fields box. The same values are added to WooCommerce order emails, in both HTML and plain text. Default WooCommerce fields, such as the normal order notes field, stay in their usual place.

Can I make a field required, change its label, or format the phone number?

Yes. Open a field and you can change its type, label, placeholder, default value, and whether it is required. Phone fields also accept a format such as 09##-###-####, where # means a digit. There is a separate option, Disable Auto-Save, for a field that should not be remembered between page refreshes. Use that for temporary or sensitive answers.

Can I show a field only for one product, or only after another answer?

Not in this free edition. Those are full-edition tools. A product field appears only when that product is in the cart, so other orders never see the question. A conditional rule shows a field only after a chosen answer. If the customer does not give that answer, the field stays off the form. See the Lumo Advanced WooCommerce Checkout Field Editor.

Can customers upload a file or choose a delivery date at checkout?

Not with this free plugin. File upload and date and time fields are part of the full edition. With file upload, the customer attaches a file during checkout and you open that file from the order screen. Date, time, number, password, hidden, multi-select, and grouped checkbox fields are also full-edition field types.

If I upgrade later, do I have to rebuild the checkout form?

No. Both editions store the checkout fields in the same place. Deactivate this free plugin, then activate the full edition. The fields you already saved stay in place. Keep only one of the two plugins active. You can also export the field setup as JSON from General Settings and import that file on another site.
